Tyler Bier and Anna Farrell first found
inspiration from a love for music, many of their ceramic guitars have
been modeled after Tyler's own using high fire stoneware clay. Along
with slab building, a technique used to form their guitars, Tyler also
utilizes the potter's wheel to create functional forms while both
continue to make sculptural pieces such as wheel thrown fish, piggy
banks, and much more.
Their ceramic guitars have been received
incredibly well by people in Michigan and across the country. The
guitar's body is assembled first from clay slabs which becomes the
foundation for the guitar's unique characteristics such as pick guards,
knobs and pickups. Each guitar is then fired in a bisque, then glazed,
then fired once more. But, this process, and the guitar, wouldn't be
complete without being strung with wire, making it sound a little flat!
As young artists, Tyler and Anna find
themselves immensely fortunate to have the opportunity to work at
something so enjoyable and hope to always play on new ideas and forms.
