Mary is a resident and active member of the art community in Traverse City, MI and the nearby Leelanau Peninsula where she makes her home. Before moving to Northern Michigan she was on the faculty of the Midland Michigan Center for the Arts and Sciences Studio Classes, where she taught the pastel medium. Mary currently teaches popular pastel classes at the Traverse City Artcenter and in surrounding communities. She is completing 6 years as president of the Great Lakes Pastel Society, a 200 member organization associated with the International Association of Pastel Societies.

Her award winning art has been shown in numerous jury exhibitions and solo exhibits. She is represented by Main Street Gallery in Leland, MI, Viola Gallery, Elk Rapids, MI, Sheffields, Traverse City, MI and Northwood Gallery, Midland, MI. Her studio, Rimwalk Studio on the Leelanau Peninsula is open to the public. Her work can be found in public, corporate and private collections nationwide.

A book of 18 of her paintings titled “Look About You - A Magical Childhood in Michigan’s Wild Places” authored by Erin Anderson was a long time best seller in NW Michigan when released in 2002. It is now in its second printing.

“I have learned over the years that in order to truly enjoy my craft, I have to paint what is most important to me. My paintings speak to me by reminding me where I have been or of a favorite spot to which I hope to return. It is my hope that they will speak to the viewer in the same way, triggering a memory of a similar experience or place in time.”
