My grandfather
was a cabinetmaker. When I was about five years old, children were
not allowed into his work area. At the farm when everyone was
outside, I would sneak into the wood shop. I was in
"paradise," staring at the wood and tools. I would run
my hand over the woods and touch the tools dreaming of building
something someday.
I had been
working in clay about twenty years, thinking the wood skills could
start. I wanted to do more with my tiles. I started reading
book after book, and then just began working in wood. I met
woodworker Bob Jackson, who taught a wood working class for women only.
He fine tuned my skills and opened wide the door to the world of
woodworking and using exotic woods.
The clay tiles
and wood are a marriage of materials that are endless in design. They
are joyfully keeping a smile on my face and my heart warm with
creativity.
I have a small
showroom attached to my studio that you are welcome to visit. Please
call for studio hours. I do art fairs and am not always there.
